Creative Campus Initiative

We were approached by a consortium of 13 South and South west Universities to create a web presence promoting their cumulative vision of the upcoming Cultural Olympiad in response to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“The Creative Campus Initiative is a once in a lifetime opportunity to create an unprecedented level of cultural collaboration between Universities in the UK. In support of the Cultural Olympiad, it is based on the values of exploration, research, learning and progression. The 13 universities who make up the CCI consortium share a common belief that Higher Education can play a unique role in raising the aspirations and skills of young people through creative innovation inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The institutions have commissioned new art works, research-based creative responses, critical debate, learning and community projects which take both direct and tangential inspiration from different Olympic and Paralympic sports.

Historical, cultural and socio-political issues raised by the Games have been addressed by leading artists, students and academics alongside new learning materials and workshops with schools and local communities.During Phase One, 102 projects have been created, attracting 990 participants directly involved in their development, production and presentation. The forecast for audience numbers experiencing the projects, performances and works in the public realm exceeds more than 550,000 people by July, 2010. 305 new partnerships have been established with schools, FE Colleges, arts organisations, community groups, disability organisations, local authorities, foundations and development agencies

Creative Campus Initiative is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council of England (HEFCE) and is an initiative of the HE Cultural Forum
